My 92 dodge van sometimes won't start even after replacing the safety switch
I have a 92 dodge b350 van and sometimes it will not start....if I move the shifter from park to 1st and back a few times it then starts. I replaced the neutral safety switch on the transmission and it seemed to fix it but then on occasion would do the same thing.
What could also be in the circuit that could cause this? Could there be something on the steering column that has some relay contacts that work in line with the neutral switch? Might it be a bad contact in the key module?
It happens about once every dozen or so starts.
Driving me crazy.
Any ideas?

The cam inside the tranny that the NSS rides on could be worn down to the point that it's not tripping the switch enough. Do the reverse lights work properly since that circuit is also built into the NSS?
Thanks did not know that. Will have to remember to see when it fails. My wife says she just runs the shift lever up and down on the steering column a few times and then it will start. If that cam is worn I wonder what I could add to extend the neutral switch further in. Maybe remove the washer and use some silicone to seal instead. Had the tranny rebuilt about 3 years ago but I bet that part which is in the tail piece was probable not part of the assembly. Thanks for the tip and will try to check if it fails when it is in the driveway and I am with her.
