reman PCM did not help
Left Friday to tow my van back from AL to my home in KY...
3 photos attached
1. in a rest area on my way
2. van loaded where I left it 8 days ago in church parking lot
3. near Lexington, KY where my daughter a passenger going the other way on I-75 snapped a picture
I got here without incident, 1701 miles round trip over 3 days.
2004 Ram 3500 dually Turbo diesel Cummins with 6 speed manual transmission and heavy duty 19' 8" equipment hauler.
I have a new found respect for that Cummins engine! That Dodge was a beast pulling up hills at 65 MPH in top gear! About 10 MPG average down and back.
So far I dropped in an alternator, and still get start then die with No Bus.
I came in to get something to eat and will now try funair02's suggestion of checking the instrument cluster.
Will report back later

so instrument panel test reports 920, 921 and 999 errors...
a quick search revels this:
Here's the detailed instrument cluster error codes per the manual:
code 110: A failure has been identified in the cluster CPU, RAM, or EEPROM.
code 900: The CCD data bus is not operational.
code 920: The cluster is not receiving a vehicle speed message from the PCM.
code 921: The cluster is not receiving a distance pulse message from the PCM.
code 940: The cluster is not receiving an airbag lamp-on message from the ACM.
code 950: The cluster is not receiving an ABS lamp-on message from the CAB.
code 999: An error has been discovered
So I am thinking... 2 summers ago I tapped into the PCM wires to obtain vehicle speed info for an add-on cruise control that I installed. Maybe I need to look at those connections and maybe disconnect that cruise box.
I have NOW cut the spliced in wires for the cruise while battery disconnected... then reconnect battery perform test again and still get same errors, 920, 921, 999, and NO Bus...
connector or sensor from speed whatever is located WHERE??? FOUND IT!
should I clean the connector and just purchase another speed sensor? I ohmed it out at about 1/2 ohm...
I ordered a replacement and should get it by the end of the week
BTW after changing alternator the van started and ran a few minutes but then died, restarted, then quickly died and then got NO Bus, no start (engine will spin)...

I saw on another thread that another Ram owner found what was causing his intermittent stall and crank-no-start. He said he found several bad wires under the PDC.
The one he called out was 12 volts coming off the ASD relay pin 87. He had no continuity to the PCM C3 Pin 12. This is what tells the PCM that the ASD relay has been energized. It also feeds power to the ignition coil, fuel injectors, and O2 sensors. Kinda important wire.
Don't know what the other ones were. Gonna check mine tomorrow.
