Air Bag Light
Vehicle: 2002 Ram 1500 Maxivan Work Van
Intention: Remove passenger seat and seatbelt to allow easier access and more room for cargo
Issue: When I separate the underseat electrical quick disconnect going to the passenger seatbelt pretensioner, I get the airbag warning light.
Question: Does this light truly indicate disabling of the airbag system, and if so is it for both driver and passenger side or just passenger?
I've done an exhaustive search in my owner's manual and all over the net to no avail. Any wisdom would be appreciated before I actually remove the seat and seatbelt. Thnx.

Thnx for the quick reply and keeping me from making a safety mistake. I'll remove only the passenger seat but leave the seatbelt, pretensioner, and electrical connections intact.

From my '01 manual:
The passenger airbag switch is connected in series
between the Airbag Control Module (ACM) and the
passenger airbag inflator unit. When the switch is in
the On position, the switch connects the ACM
directly to the passenger airbag inflator. When the
switch is in the Off position it interrupts the inflator
circuits, but replaces the normal resistance in these
circuits with an internal resistor. Thus, the ACM is
unable to distinguish the mode of the switch and still
sends an electrical signal as though it were deploying
the passenger airbag when it detects a sufficient
impact. However, the switch position should not be
changed while the ignition switch is in the On position,
as the ACM may detect a fault, record a Diagnostic
Trouble Code (DTC), and illuminate the Airbag
indicator in response to a momentary open it senses
in the passenger airbag inflator circuits as the on/off
switch changes states.

the resistance is 2.2 ohms. if you were to wire a 2.2 ohm resistor to the proper connector (as it has shorting bars) the system would pass its state of health checks.
Its the same as a dealer airbag load tool which are used for diagnostic purposes.
