Default remove spark plugs, (not so simple)

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram Van with 318/5.2 engine, with heat shield, that will not permit my spark plug wrench to fit and hard as hell to remove any suggestion. 2dodgeman

I had pretty good luck using a universal joint.

Still not "easy", but a little patience goes a long way.

Pull the heat shields out with some claw pliers. I believe they still sell new ones. If you have debris in the hole, it will fall in the cylinder when you take the plug out. I used to take them out and flip them over for a new surface to drive the old ones back in.....if they don't get mangled taking them out.

Ditto, take the shields out. If they don't pull out then use a pipe and a hammer to hit them sideways and they'll come out. You'll break the spark plugs but you're replacing them anyways. Just be sure to vacuum or blow out the areas around the spark plugs before removing them to prevent any chips from falling into the cylinders.
