Hey, I will make this short. Your problem sounds a bit like mine. 3 months ago I put a new fuel pump in my 2000 ram van 1500, 318ci. 4 days ago my van had been running fine for the 3 months and just started to lose power, miss and sputter to a stop. Waited a few minutes, started up fine and died after a couple minutes. I did not think it was the fuel pump because it was new. I had a lean code coming up and started checking all the electrical, battery, relays , IAC, fuses etc.
Finally, I read the instructions to the fuel pump install and I had missed a step. I had never filled the tank. The pump motor did not have enough fuel down in the cup to keep it cool so the ASD was shutting it down. I opened the trap door, pulled the pump, manually filled the bottom of the pump, put back in and it has been running fine all day today after filling the tank.
I made a mistake and I hope this helps someone.
