Default 03 3500 ext Shudder / noise in reverse when turning sharply.

2003 3500 Ram van Ext RWD.
I've been going thru it a piece at a time and getting it in pretty good shape. Runs, drives beautifully. No (longer) any OBD codes. May just need tires.

I've noticed that when in reverse and turning sharply at low speeds (like backing into a parking space, or doing a sharp 3-pointer) I hear and feel a "shudder". It "sounds like" the front tires are rubbing, but I am concerned it could be a differential or trans issue. U-joints maybe? No problems in any of the forward gears. Whether turning sharply or not.

Bringing it in to my local guy on Monday to see what he thinks.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

My guess would be that the alignment is off and the front tires are fighting each other.

Alloro,

Tnx for the reply. If it was alignment, do you think it would only happen in reverse and not forward? I am curious.

Tnx

Yes, in reverse while turning you are stressing the wheels in the opposite direction than if turning while moving forward. (pull versus push) A combination of worn bushings and alignment adjustments that might already favor one extreme over the other can cause the condition while moving in one direction and not the other.

UPDATE: Issue appears to be resolved. I am not sure what resolved it, but I can tell you I had the veh aligned (was told it was not that far out), and the rear end oil changed, and MOPAR friction modifier added. One of these two remedies fixed it. (Thus far).
