Got a P0720 code on the van after check engine light came on. Found the output speed sensor on the overdrive section of the transmission. The wiring harness looks suspect, rather warn, so I think I should replace that as well as the sensor. I've found plenty of online help about replacing the sensor but none about replacing the wiring harness. Connecting it to the sensor is simple enough, but what do I need to know about connecting the two wires at the other end of the replacement part? Thanks!
If the wires aren't chafed and have exposed wire showing and the connector isn't cracked n clicks in place, before cutting any wire why not try cleaning it up with some electrical spray cleaner and something like an old toothbrush/swab ... then dab in some dieclectic grease, connect it and see if that solves the problem?
JFloors: Nice to hear from you again. Unfortunately the harness has some exposed wire. It does click into place, but it's not looking healthy. It will have to do for now, because the harness the auto store sold us is not the right part; however, the P0720 error stayed clear after replacing the output speed sensor. The harness is going to need replacement eventually. This would be so much easier with a lift- or even a garage. Thanks, again for your prompt and helpful advice.
Glad to hear that the new sensor cleared the code and works atleast...
I also hear ya on what a benefit it would be having a lift to do some of this stuff. Pulled something in my lower back just this past month all I did was sit up from my bed one afternoon from laying down 10 minutes after work, couldn't do much except lay down for 4-5 days to relieve pain the of it!
I'm not a big guy but I guess the years I've worked have taken some toll on these old bones
