Battery hold down with crusty white powder
hi guys, what causes the battery hold down to turn all crusty white? I’d this a chassis ground issue too close to top of battery? I think the screw it touching the sidewall.
will try and post a picture

+1 for battery gassing
When batteries charge they can gas..ie. release hydrogen gas. As batteries get old and near the end of life they can gas more.
apply a baking soda slurry (water and baking soda mix) to neutrailized the precipitate formation,...wash it off with water then apply a spray grease to the hold down. i use white lithium.

Funny how it collects around the hold down clamp.
I readjusted the clamp and put a plastic shim (A water bottle cap :-) between the body panel and wing nut.
Then vacuumed it all out. i like the grease idea. Will do that this week.
Battery was sorta dead too, so yea, near end o' life.
thanks guys
