Default 1998 B3500 9.25 upgrades / interchanges?

Hello All

My motorhome is based off a 98 B3500 Ram Van. It has the 9.25 rearend in it, 3.92 gears, open diff, single bearing on the axle shaft (semi floating), drum brakes. The gears are a bit noisy, and I'd like to have a limited slip diff, so I'm looking at a bill of about $1000 to have a good shop put in new gears and a Dodge style limited slip carrier. My van has a dual wheel conversion kit that installs a spacer on the axle flange, and then mounts regular dual wheels.

I met a fellow with a 2002 motorhome based on a Dodge, and his rearend was a full floater, drum brakes. I regret not looking underneath to see if it was a corporate 9.25 or a Dana.

Anyhow, how do I find out interchange capabilities to get a drum brake rearend with limited slip, maybe even one that is already set up for dual wheels so I won't have to use the adapter? I've read some posts in this forum, and it seems like there is a database somewhere, because some responders list out years of other vehicles. Can someone point me to that database, or help me with some years and models otherwise?

Thanks,

Gerard

Gerald, I have a 2002 Xplorer and my rear axle looks the same in your the picture. My brochure said limited slip with 4.10 though. I don't know how to tell if the axle is a full floater or semi floater but I've had the rear dually adapter off to change the wheel cylinders. Not sure if I can help are you sure yours is not already a limited slip? Would a Dana 70 fit under there already set up for dually wheels?

The early Xplorers were 3.91 open diffs, says that on the hood sticker too...I had mine rebuilt once already, at 32,000 miles...should have gone for the new gearset and limited slip back then. Now at 65,000.

What kind of gas mileage do you get with the 4:10's? I get about 12-13 with the 3:91's.

I get about 12 going 71. 71mph seems to be the sweet spot for mine.
