racing engine
1990 B250 conversion van, 154,000 miles, purchased a few months ago. Van ran fine until one day when started, the engine started racing, stalling, backfiring and stopping, both in park and in drive. Van had almost no power. First thoughts were the spark plugs or a vacuum leak. A mechanic has replaced: spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil, fuel filter, MAP sensor, throttle body gasket, coolant temp sensor, oxygen sensor, fuel pump, strainer, air charge temp sensor, transmission filter, intake manifold gasket, EGR valve, thermostat, and sprayed cleaner around all the vacuum lines looking for a leak. Condition now has changed. Van starts and seems to idle ok. If driven right away, it surges, races and has little power. If van is allowed to warm up 15+ minutes it seems to run fine but have not tried to travel more that a few miles yet since we live in the country. Anybody have any ideas?
