Thanks but that is much older, most likely 1st gen. vehicle. the 2001 is a 2nd generation, looks like the cover to the expansion core is all in the engine bay. 9 most likely 10mm screws, one of the screws off to the left side if you are facing the engine from in front looks like to tight a space to fit your hand thru, looking to see if someone came up with a trick etc.. tool to do that one screw, and without dropping it. Also want to know if that, temp control connector needs to be screw needs to be removed due to space it too would be nightmare city to remove. Perhaps you can remove the glove box and reach in there if it opens up access. We will see what others say here. Figured this one would be an easy one to get answers for??? Maybe shop manual tells more???

Default 2001 factory service manual

Attached is the first of many pages to follow if you can read it and it's what you need. It will take a while to scan all the other pages so bear with me. I do have the entire thing on a CD in PDF but it's 5.89 meg and the forum will only allow an attachment of 5 meg. If somebody knows how I can send it let me know please.

That is what I needed, thank you so much. It is much more involved than I had imagined. As with all these modern cars you gotta remove so much around something to be able to do a repair. I guess that is why I love the 60's and earlier cars what you saw was what you were dealing with. Not remove everything all around it to get at it. So there is no trick to removing the top part, You gotta remove the entire unit, by reaching according to the manual thru glove box openings, boy that's a 1st for me.
