Default 1995 B2500 3.9L V6 pcm

Hi, i have a 1995 B2500 3.9L V6. The PCM is just old enough that it doesn't take a code reader, and reads code via the check engine light. I would like to keep this vehicle for a while, and know i will probably need to fix parts, so i am looking to buy an aftermarket PCM. Since it's old enough that it doesn't have the traditional code reader jack location, does it matter what kind of PCM i get? Do dodges take specific aftermarket PCM's? Does my specific model take a specific kind? What would you recommend?
thanks

The part numbers have to match exactly or you run the risk of it not working right or keeping your CEL on indefinitely.

I just bought a "Mopar refurbished" (still not sure what exactly that means) PCM on eBay for $210 for my 2001 3500 and it fixed the problem I was having. Besides finding a matching part no. the seller took my VIN and current mileage to program the unit for my van. I have read stories where the replacement PCM is not programmed (or "flashed") to the vehicle it will be placed in, doesn't work well and the dealer will not program anything but a new $1000 + PCM they want to sell you so be careful. Also I believe you can have your own PCM repaired if you have the time but I don't know where or how reliable that method is.
Make sure you get a warranty in any case. Mine was only 2 months but that is long enough to know if it will work for my van.
And of course don't fix it if isn't broke.
