I got a sweet deal on a 98 Dodge Ram 1500 coachman van ($300) and am wrenching on it now. It's from the east coast and a total rust bucket on the undercarriage. Replacing the brake lines now. Also ripping up the interior carpeting, tore out the crooked back lounge seat. It's gonna be me and my lady's road trip cruiser. Quite exciting!!
Got a couple of questions though:
> having one hell of a time trying to find what exactly to call this beast: is it a Dodge RAM 1500? A Dodge 1500B? placard says RAM 1500 but I can't seem to make sense of it when trying to order parts
>What wheels and tires have yall put on the your vans? I'm definitely interested in getting a sexy - albeit functional - look out of her...
> am I crazy for wanting to put a lift kit on her? has anyone done this? what do I need to know?
Any archived forums or other websites and information on this killer van make & model would be appreciated, I think I'll have her for a while!
It's a Ram Van 1500, some part sites will refer to it as a B1500 or even a B150. The last two are older terms that have just been carried forward through the years.
I have a 99. Luckily my interior was in good shape. The annoying thing is the rear ac doesn't work. Do you have a project site anywhere. I'd like to see how your van progresses. When I search parts sites, they usually have the van listed under the ram 1500s as ram 1500 van.
If its as bad as you say it is underneath, I would take extreme caution by monitoring the condition of the frame rails. Very common issue on these vans, primarily 1998-2003. A common trouble spot is by the steering box.
