Default 1996 Dodge B2500 Tranny Fluid Leak

Hello all. New member hoping for some insight.

I bought a 1996 Dodge B2500 Van back in March of this year. Only had 62,500 miles on it and ran great. Still runs great, but have ran into some problems in the passed month.

First, the water pump went out. No big deal. It never overheated and at the first sign of the coolant leakage I parked it and had a mechanic come to my house and replaced the water pump.

Here's where things get weird.........

About 2 days after the water pump was replaced I felt a bit of slippage while on the highway. I had recently filled the tank and thought maybe the station had "bad gas" so I stopped at an Advanced Auto and bought some Seafoam to run thru the tank. Van seemed to respond well and for the next few days I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Yesterday, my wife and I took the van out for a drive and decided to pick up dinner from a local street vendor. As we waited for the Haitian Jerk Chicken we ordered I noticed a small puddle under the van and decided to inspect. It's transmission fluid.

There was no transmission issues, slippage or leaks, before the water pump went out and now that the water pump is fixed this new issue arises.

It only drips when the engine is running and/or the van is in gear. I parked it overnight and checked out around 3pm today and nothing had leaked overnight while it sat, so I'm thinking it isn't the pan or the pan gasket.

Anyone here have any ideas of where I should look first or any explanation on what might have caused the leak? Any help will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

There is a pressure and return cooling line from the tranny to the radiator. Perhaps during the course of the water pump R&R the pressure line was damaged.

Thank you. I’ll suggest this to my mechanic. I’m hoping that it isn’t something like the torque converter seal or anything internal.
