Van chugging
I have a completely redone 73 dodge b-200 van 100 percent all new everything..starts on a few cranks runs and idles okay, but when put in gear it chugs and wants to die..360,2 bbl,727,
Cool !
Probably a lot of us would like to see some pics of that 73
Check to see if your vacuum advance on the distributor is actually advancing the timing.
Can use a timing light to verify.
After that test - would check the operation of the centrifugal advance (weights and springs) inside of distributor for unobstructed movement.
After those - would start investigating the carburetor.
edit :
If you aren't letting it reach operating temp - could also be choke not set-up properly , or choke pull-off vacuum pod not functioning well enough. If its also sputtering at operating temp - apply the other things mentioned previously.

How old is the exhaust and do you live near fields where grains are grown? I'd hook a vacuum gauge on the engine and see what vacuum you're pulling. A healthy engine will pull 17-18 inches of vacuum. If the exhaust is plugged, either from an internally rusted muffler or rodent bedding in the exhaust. With the exhaust cold, you can crawl under and thump the muffler with your fist. If you hear rattling, it's rusted. Your van is pre-catalyst so that won't be plugged.
Now, if the exhaust is new and open, are you SURE the plug wires are on the right cylinders? It's easy to get a couple swapped. What is your timing set at? Static and vacuum advanced.
