99 Dodge 3500 Ram Van has 3600 lb upper control arm installed on 4000 lb axel. Can you stay with 3600 lb upper and use 4000 lb lower control arm without issue?
I can't imagine anyone recommending that. But hey, if I'm wrong maybe I'll learn something.
Do you know how many miles it has been on for?
Iy was installed 8000 miles ago with no problem. The onus is on me, I bought part and mechanic installed. Really wondering about the difference in the both.
Well, I'm sure there's a reason. They don't make two different parts with separate ratings for nothing.
Probably has to do with end tolerances, which means that maybe it works fine on the daily, but if stressed may fail sooner than its heavier counterpart.
I believe the lower ball joint for the 4000 arm is larger....
You would need to use the knuckle from a 4000 one. I really think you would need to swap everything (hub, caliper, caliper mount etc) as the wheel bearing for the 4000 one is larger too.
