2002 Ram Van 1500 ground clearance / lifts, and other questions
Howdy, 1st post here...
I am looking into this used "theft recovered" 2002 Ram van: http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...g=en&cardist=7
1st question: Anything recurring problem areas I should check out before I buy it... I browsed around here and these seem to be pretty solid vehicles going by the lack of problem posts concerning this model year.
2nd question: Does anyone lift these? Can I use a Ram truck 2WD suspension or body lift to get another 2" or so ground clearance? I plan to cruise alot of gravel roads and other semi-off road terrain. I can't seem to find any details about lifting these vans although I am sure it is possible though maybe not recomended for safety or other reasons? Maybe the ground clearance is sufficient already... but I would prefer a solid 6" minimum clearance if possible.

No replies? Well, I went to look at it and everything looked super except one small issue. It hadnt been started in "over a month"... when he tried to start it it took several good cranks, and finally it started. Then it wouldn't hold an idle at all, you had to keep giving it gas or it would cut out. After about 2-3 minutes of that it finally began to idle on it's own. Upon subsequent hot starts it showed no sign of this behavior. So I plan to go cold start it again today and see what happens, if that goes well I am going to pick it up. Is this normal type of behavior? I would have expected an auto-choke to warm the engine up by itself without requiring the driver to step on the gas? This is the 3.9L engine if it makes a difference.
It drove really well and showed 0 signs of damage.. pretty much brandnew all over.
I ran a carfax and it confirmed that it had been stolen and recovered in virginia... nothing un-expected. I mainly just wanted to make sure this wasnt a new orleans vehicle.
So I think it is a winner. If anyone has any info about making these into a pre-runner style van (off-road 2WD) then I'd appreciate any links or info. Basically I am thinking of a small lift, a front protector fender, and a winch. Maybe the small engine makes this a bad choice for this kind of mods, but I think it should be fine?
Ill post some pics when I buy it later on...
