buddy stuck ..no start..SBEC not available anymore
Its my buddys 1990 Dodge van B250 ( he's living out of it.. )
no start, weak/no spark ( had a tiny white spark)
Not lean burn.. has TBI.. on a 318ci V8.. this has the black plastic lid SBEC on the firewall
I have the proper 1990 schematic... 2 days studying it and 3 trips back forth to the disabled van..im exhausted
threw a new coil and distributor pickup coil at it... Battery good, ASR good, has 12 volts to plus side ignition coil
All 3 wires connections from new Duralast pickup in distributor.. to the 60 pin SBEC continuity good, minus side of the coil continuity to SBEC also good.
#5,11 and 12 on SBEC grounds good
pin #3 and 19 at SBEC good at 12 volts
seems this SBEC died..??
but wanting to double check..
Question: The new Duralast Pickup coil in the distributor.. 3 wires out.. gets 9 volts and a ground... and then #24 grey signal is suppose to pulse as the distr. rotates.. connecting a DVM from this grey to ground shows random 2 to 3 volts.. a Harbor Freight 12 volt test lamp shows dark.. how to properly check this? (its new.. i assume good)
And next ... ( this piece of the puzzle to create spark properly im assuming is "broken").. is the "ignition coil driver" output of the SBEC at #19.. to the minus side of the ignition coil .. im sure a DVM couldnt read it correct? i cant check that ?
anyway there's no spark... thus im assuming theres no proper "driver" happening at the minus side coil...
The SBEC for a 3speed auto trans with OD Calif 318ci s no longer available at AutoZone/Oreillys even special order, they said go on EBay or FB marketplace
Can i convert to this older style ignition driver? see picture..$60 at AutoZone (it actually shows its for the 1990 Dodge B250 318ci)
thanks all !
