how new can i go on a motor for a 95 dodge van full size w/ a 318?

 

New as when Chrysler no longer made the engine, about 2003 or new as in a 5.2L (318) being compatible for your body years.

I do know that there were some changes around 1999-2001.

Check your VIN number for engine type and the other details for the engine series run.

You could go as new as you want. Just the farther away from your model year you go the more parts that you will have to swap over. The block and the heads are the same from around 94 to 03.
