Default Parking Brake Stuck: How Fix It?

1989 Ram 250 5.2L

The parking break pedal is stuck in the up position. How do I get it unstuck so I can use it?

I had same problem on my 1993 B250 5.2L. The cause was rusted parking brake cables going to the rear brakes. The wire inside the cable is rusted in place. The Parking Brake Cables are about $30 a piece. The Chiltons manual goes into good detail about replacing. Any brake place can do it, while you are at it, might as well do your brake work for the rears- same amount of labor.

Hi zenman,

I found out I can get the rear cables for $17. a piece and there are two of them and the front cable is $59. I don't know if it's the backs or fronts that are stuck but it turns out I can buy them all and return a piece if I don't need it.

I also found out the front piece depends on the wheelbase, 110" or 127". I'll have to measure it. I don't know which it is.
