Cleaing throttle body plate
this is my first time to post on the forum, so I am not sure I am posting in the correct forum. Please direct me if I am not.
I have a '95 Dodge Ram Van with the 318 magnum V8. Every couple of years I start havign problems with it dyign at idle. It willimmediately restart and run fine but when i want to stp i have to keep my foot onthe accelerator to keep up the revs so it won't die. The remedy is to take it into the shop have the throttle body plate cleaned. I am getting tired of shucking out $125 for the service which I suspect I coudl do as I am mechnaically inclined and have lors of minor jobs although most are on older vehicles with carburetors.
Is this a job I can do myself? Would a Chilton's manual show how to do this?
Thanks.

Just remove the air cleaner, remove the 4 bolts it it on the engine and all the connectors. Once off, disassemble it and using a toothbrush and some throttle body cleaner go to town. reassemble and install with new gasket-then dissconnect the battery to reset the IAC counter.
