Default Water Pump

Can a weak water pump provide enough coolant to cool engine but not enough to provide water pump? Or would the engine overheat? What are signs of a failing water pump?

Thanks
Marc

If it ain't leaking or making any funny noises it's okay. Maybe your thermostat or lower radiator hose needs replacing if you're having over-heating issues.

I'm really good at detecting noises, but my wife actually caught the noise of the water pump failing long before I did. She did not know what it could be and I could not hear it too well. Then, ka-blooie! coolant goes everywhere.

In hindsight, though it's like the sound of noisy bearings, like a whirring sound. Might even get louder as you turn and put pressure on the belt. That kind of threw me.

It's a good maintenance item to replace at a certain mileage instead of letting it catch you on the road.

Cheers,
Lee

Well Overheating could be a sign that the pump is failing along with the other things mentioned.

I replaced mine when it went in to have the timing chain replaced, since that is under the water pump.
