Default tansmission problems?

I have a 1993 Dodge ram 250 van. When I am in drive, and am coming to a stop, the van starts to hesitate, almost like the brakes are sticking, and i have to drop it into 2nd gear to get it to stop hesitating. I went into a tramsmission shop and he said that it was definately the transmission, probably the torgue converter. he said he could take it apart to find the problem, but once it was apart, he said that 9 times out of 10 you cant put them back together. hmmmmm.

Anyway, could you tell me what the problem may be...

thank you very much and merry christmas

He's right, torque convertors are weighted and balanced, once you take them apart... it's darn near impossible to put it back together the same way.

I can't say yes it is the torque convertor, because I'd really need to ride in the Van to know... but, it's a very real possibility. Did the mechanic say anything else? Like what else it might be... ? The gears sound fine since it's driving and engaging without issue... I'd say he's right, but don't pay to have him take just the Torque Convertor apart... because, whether it is or isn't that, once it's apart, you'll need to buy another... and pay for the take apart and put together time... you see?

I do think it's likely the Torque Convertor, but don't get roped into extra fee's...

Keep us informed!!
