Default Is a Diff rebuild needed?

I have a 96 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 3.55 sure-grip rear axle with 62,000 miles. It seems like an open diff in snow and ice, I would think it should be tighter. It will spin one wheel really easy.

Is there a rebuild kit for the diff. The "F" manufacturer has a diff clutch rebuild kit. Or am I faced to swap out the diff with an Eaton or Auburn?

After 25K miles on 80/90 gear oil in a rebuilt rear end (3.55:1 w/ posi) I started to have some chattering after driving on the freway, getting off and turning in either direction. I was not having any problems up to this time.I called the shop that did the work and they said to change the fluid with 80/90 gear oil and a tube of friction modifier.

Needless to say I knew better...of course . I did some research and decided to put in 85/140 gear oil and the friction modifier. I will say that when it gets cold here (in California that means all the wayin to the low 40's BBBRRRRRR!!!!) the posi is very loose or non existant. But when it has been on the highway or on a warmer day it performs flawlessly. I would try changing the fluid using lighter weight oil. Maybe a 80/90 or lighter or a synthetic.DONT FORGETTHE FRICTION MODIFIER!!!!I plan on going to a synthetic in the next few weeks. I will let you know how it goes.
