TURNS, WONT RUN! -
Can anyone help with this one? I'verecently purchased a '98 RAM 1500 SLT Laramaie Quadcab in the UK, and love it!

However, I now have a problem? On turning the key the engine turns over fine, but won't start. Seems that there is no spark -- however all fuses/relays/connections etc seem good, there is power at the fuel pump etc.

Any ideas? Vehicle has a Kennie Bell supercharger+optimiser computer fitted (was on vehicle before it left the US) and has had no problems to my knowledge before. In fact the day of the fault it must have been started/stoped over 30 times with no unusual signs at all.

Does anyone have good advice on diagnostic test/likely cause, as this vehicle is hard to find tecs for over here!!My local UK Chrysler dealer is currently "looking" (they don't sell RAMs here!) at GB70 /hour (=US 125 ) and still doesn't have any firm idea!

Fault occured without warning, when it happened vehicle actually ran fine after warm startfor a couple of seconds as if burning whatever fuel was left in the pipes before shutting down. (FYI this couldn't have happened at a better time, I was in a line about to drive onto the "Eurotunnel" train which runs under the sea between England and France on Xmas eve- and spent Xmas day getting a tow back home!)

Now turning the key turns the engine over fine -- just won't start. No unusual behaviour, dash lights all OK etc.

Please help!

Hello UK.
Have you or your Chrysler tech. been able to collect any diag codes
from the truck? I seem to recall an on-off-on-off-on key sequence
will display the diagnostic codes, but don't quote me on that. It
almost sounds like a theft deterrent fuel shut-off. I don't think
the '98s had the over-priced active keys yet (the ones with the chip to
"talk" to the dashboard), so that's not it.
Good luck with your UK dealer! What city are you in/near?

Yes, definitely. Keep us posted. If you still get
nowhere with your Chrysler dealer, let me know. I may be able to
find a more respected dealer in the Brighton area for you.

Well, fault was diagnosed today as a faulty PCM power control module (BTW, see http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2000/08-24-00.htm) by the dealer. Problem was that these aren't stocked in Europe at all so one is shipping via UPS as I write thanks to a friendly Florida Dodge dealer (FL is where my truck originally came from!) and I should have it later on in the week... will post pictures and my first mods shortly after !

MY dodge ram did the same thing, only it would start when i
was feeding it gas, but all it took was disconnecting the battery
for 1/2 hour or so to reset the computer.......
i dunno if that helps but yeah........

Hmmm.... wish I had been out of gas, that would have been an easy one :-) even at USD 5.00 per Gallon !!!! Thanks for the idea with the battery... did try that too but no dice.

Story is that that they don't sell RAMS here, but the techreplacing the PCM with one from a 6-cyl Chryslercar they do officially import fired her up on 6 straight away (she is a V8 5.9 Magnum) so the correct PCM is en-route from Florida... in fact it is now just landed here (according to theUPS website) so hopefully I'm rolling tomorrow....
