86 ram auto transmission HELP !!!!!!!
1986 dodge ram truck 2wd, v8, auto transmission.
ive got a very noisey transmission, ive looked underneath and there are several bars connected to the trans, ive tried adjusting the lengths with the attached bolts 1/8 th an inch each way and can change the 'noise' but cant get it to be completely quiet? always clicking and clunking and noisey to drive or cant find gears at all.
is there a correct way to adjust the levers underneath?
im trying by having it in park when im adjusting but am wondering if i should set it when its in neutral?
im no mechanic, but would love to avoid getting charged $500 by a transmission shop if its as simple as adjusting the bars/rods/levers underneath correctly.
any help appreciated, im running out of ideas...........
please?

I'm thinking that maybe it's internal, although I've not heard it.
If it hasn't had a transmission flush, filter change or band adjustment, it may be overdue. In my experience that can make a tranny like new.
Band adjustments are easy if you follow the instructions.
