Default Trouble Codes on a 1998 Cummins 2500 Ram

Hi,

i am from Germany.
A friend of me has some problems with his 1998 2500 Dodge Ram. The truck is equiped with a Cummins diesel engine.
The engine cranks but will not start. And the self-diagnostic system shows the follwing failures.

P1688 Internal injector pump failure

and

P1693 DTC detected in PCM

What does these trouble codes mean? Is the incector pump dead and gone? Or exist other reasons responsible for this problem?

Shortly the alternator was changed for a new one.

For this reason i love my 77 W200 Power Wagon. He does not know things like trouble codes. He runs and runs.... :-)

Thank you for posting!

Greetings form Germany
Michael

The first code says your main injector pump is probably shot.Check your lift pump to see if it even works. That is the main cause of the problem. Also lack of changing the fuel filter ruins the main pump.Hope this helps.
