Title says it, had my cat replaced yesterday and I wanted to keep the old one so I could sell it and hopefully recoup some of the cost.

Guy told me he has to keep it for 30 days, any truth to that?

Im betting he just wants to recycle it himself.

these things have precious metals in them. I bet he gets a core charge for them.

Sounds like you've been fed a load. As Drew said, they have precious metals in them which are worth something to a recycler. I'll bet in 30 days, it will have mysteriously vanished.

 

Oh, he never even offered to have me come back in 30 days, just kinda blew me off. (not literally)

I have seen used converters going for over $150 on ebay, thats what I had planned to do.

And I agree, its off of my car, he didnt ask or stipulate that the old one not be blown out to get the price that I got, so I cant believe there would be a core.

 

Tell them to give the cat or you will infirm the state police of the situation,if they are an inspection station they stand a chance of loosing there license.

 

EPA mandates keeping cats for a specified length of time...they never check them but,that's the rules.
Shops can be fined up to 10K$ for infractions.
On a side note,the value of a used cat is only about 15$ to a recycler....not everyone is out to screw you.

 

They go for about $50 plus shipping on ebay, more if the ad is right, do a completed listings search on ebay.
