1996 ram 2500 V10 .the shift from 2to3 feels like it is in nuetral .i have to get the truck up to about 45-50 mph for it to actually go into 3rd after letting off the gas peddle for a few seconds all other gears are fine. also after letting truck setting overnite sometimes it will go ahead and shift to 3rd a few times but when the truck starts to warm up the problem starts again any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED</P>

took truck to mechanic told me to have it rebuilt he couldnt fix it. any way the truck only has 74000 miles and all the other gears pull fine just the 2 to 3 shift wont shift at low rpms.he run diagnostics test itshowed code 11 i think the mechanic told me it was a crankshaft position sensor code.but that it would not affect the transmission. called a transmission rebuilder today he said it would cost $1800.00 to rebuild i dont think it needs a total rebuild with under 100k on the odometer any someone please steer this newbie in the right dierection thanks Kevin</P><edited><editID>kejo31</editID><editDate>38012.146712963</editDate></edited>

i took my truck to the dealer last week. the tech told me it was the 2-3 seal in the clutch pack he informed me that it was a factory defect the retainer on that seal has a rough lip on it that wears the seal out.so he told me it would cost about 800.00$ to fix and he suggested to replace the retainer with an aftermarket on. or go to a salvage yard to replace the tranny. everything i read so far said it was the governor shift pressure solenoid. but i asked the tech and he told me it didnt have the electronic solenoid it was a centifigul governor so what i was wondering is it electronic or centrifigul?

You have the electronic controlled transmission. There is no longer a hydraulic governor.
Also, so you don't have troubles later, you need to replace the governer pressure switch and the governer sensor.
DO NOT use after-market parts. It is a waste of money. Use only Dodge parts from a dealer. I was told this by a transmission shop. I followed their instructions and my truck works fine, now.
These parts are fairly easy to replace. Just drop the pan and filter and they are right there in front of your face.

Dodge parts are going to cost you around 200 dollars. [:@]

You will also need a new filter and fluid. These you can buy at any parts store.

did you notice this thread was almost 3 years old? most of the threads have been started in the 1st,2nd or 3rd gen sub-forums. that way they get exposure to users who have that generation truck and are most familar with them.
