Default ’97 ram noise

My truck is making a noise that resembles metal plates clanking together at low speeds and it is louder when my truck is loaded down. Anyone know what this noise may be (1500 slt 4x4 HD package) <edited><editID>tobybackwoods</editID><editDate>38006.8513078704</editDate></edited>

I had the same noise and climbed under and found that my rear universal joint is bad. Climb under and shake the heck out of it with lots of pressure, if it moves up and down or side to side replace the U joint. They are 15.99 eachat the auto parts store.</P>
