My son recently bought a 2001 Ram 1500 4x4 with 30,000 mi. & a 5.9. He loves the truck, but is getting well below 10 mpg (6-8) with it. He doesn't baby it, but doesn't get on it all the time either. What's typicalmpg for these engines, and what can he reasonably do to improve the mpg? I know a tonneau cover will help, but how about K&N air filters, etc.?

Thanks,

K&N will help and a programmer also. If you are in the colder climate that mileage will suffer greatly with warmups and defroster running constantly.
