Default I did it! (26 gallon tank to 34 on a 2003)

I posted a question about switching out a 26 gallon tank for a 34 gallon tank on a 2003 Quad cab. Notwithstanding EPA issues some one replied about, my local dealership, with my assistance, replaced the tank. It was an insurance claim and I had to pay the difference in price. (Someone puncherd my old tank for fuel - has anyone else experienced this?)

Here's the scoop of what is necessary:

2005 34 gallon tank for a 1500 Quad cab or any other 34 tank for your body style. (Someone replied to use a "recycled" tank from a salvage yard. If you can find one - I agree - all they could find here in Phoenix were used 26 gallon tanks.)

Longer heat shield.

Different front strap.

Issues:

I kept my old sender - it works for everything except on the computer readout of DTE (Distance to empty). The computer still thinks the truck has a 26 gallon tank. Frankly I don't care too much about that. It might be possible to have someone in the know with the analyzer hooked up to re-program the truck with the information. Again, I don't care enough to do this.

The fuel gage reads perfect because it's based on float level and since the tank is mearly longer, it reads percentages of tank fullness.

Approximate Cost (minus labor):
34 gallon tank (used): $200.00 New: $498.00
Longer heat shield and strap: $40.00

Result:

LESS TIME AT THE PUMP! With the 14.8 MPG I've averaged over 2 years and 46,000 miles I will be able to approach 500 miles between fillings.

(My son created the animated GIF picture to the left of the replacement process.)
