Okay, I posted yesterday on my 91 Ramcharger, and so far I have had no responses. If anyone has ANY idea at all on why my truck is not charging please tell me. I have tried so many things, and I can't afford to keep buying parts that dont need to be replaced yet. Can't tell you off hand without looking at it, but I'd suggest 2 things...</P>


1) go to auto parts store &amp; ask them to test it, they maybe able to tell you what's wrong... or</P>


2) go to pavementsucks.com and post your problem there. I've found that they are more "hands on" with older trucks.</P>

do ya see the irony in this post its a ram charger not charging, anywho it sounds like ur altornator, or battery is dying or dead, steveooram360gots the right idea take it tu ur localfranchised parts dealer pepboys, autozone or oriellys they should check it for free

 

Yeah Been there done that. Replaced the alternator, it's good i know that for sure. The Battery is fine, just replaced that too. I already had both of those tested and they are great. Any other Ideas??? Thanks anyway

 

Not to bad mouth the local parts store, but I had one guy "test " a starter for me and told me that it was bad just because I am a woman. As it turned out, there was a chip in the distributor cap (GM car) and it was what was causing the problem. I took back the starter that he sold me and got mine back (core) , and the car ran fine after replacing that chip.If possible,get with someone that you've dealt with before, that you can trust, hopefully avoiding all of those extra expenditures!Maybe you have something that's grounding out or wires loose on thestarter.</P><edited><editID>Redhairedcwgirl</editID><editDate>38020.9176967593</editDate></edited>

I know that in the early 70's through the 80's and maybe beyond Dodge basically took the charging output from the alternator ran it through the ammeter then to the battery. I have owned a few older Dodge vans (in RV form) and work on an '83 Ramcharger with this set up. It was somewhat common for the ammeter to crap out. </P>


I don't know if your '91 uses the same setup or not but a quick check of a wiring diagram should tell all. If this is the case it would answer the non-charging problem and should be an easy fix. </P>


If it is a different setup then I have no idea....and....aaaahhhh...then just disregard this and I will go to sleep a failure<IMG src=smileys/smiley19.gif border="0">. Good luck!!!!!!</P>

Alright, I go to the parts store A LOT, and I tested the alt. myself. The 91 doesnt have the ammeter (regulator), so that cant be it. I am really starting to think that it is the computer. Your Ramcharger has no meter in the dash at all?</P>

 

i have a volt meter. not sure about a battery ligt, i dont have one lighting up.</P>

oh k if you have a autozone near by they have a free testing of most engin manigment systems. i know cause i work there. </P>

as for your problem it might be your voltage regulator. cost about 20 bucks were i am at. i know i had to get one.</P>
