Unhappy Newb, Need help with tensioner pully issue???

Hello all and thank you for any help that you may give me.
I have a 98 Dodge Ram,5.9 and tonight I went out and all the sudden check guages light comes on and I look and the battery is getting low so obv, I check the belt and it is really loose can anyone tell me how this happened and what to do to fix it.

How it happened? The tensioner pulley is worn out. Replace it.

Thats what I thought but seems wierd that all the sudden just gave out but I guess anything is possible. It probably is the factory one I have an 1998 Dodge Ram SST she has been great just had this bad luck.
