performance
i own a 2001, 3500 dually with a 5.9l gas engine. when accelerating the truck sounds like a 4 barrel carb wide open.i am getting poor to moderate acceleration.but seems to run fine after 50 mph. as almost if i were dragging an anchor. the truck only has 40k miles. mechanicaly it is in good shape.
not sure what you are asking. truck has a 3.55 axle,8000lb dana anti slip diff. there are no mods on this truck. i installed new plugs thinking this would help.there was no difference. did find that air filter housing had worked its way free off of the throttle body. did make some difference in acceleration. suspect that has something to do with powertrain computer module. if you agree can you suggest mod.
well if the intake popped off the TB the engine probably doesn't know how much air is being sent through the engine and therefore it wouldn't know how much fuel to add/subtract. That should put it into a safe mode though, and I think you'd definately notice that. On second thought, it would also drastically increase the engine noise under load as well. Make sure that everything is intact and tightened properly and drive it around a bit - it should recover after a while and run normally again. Or you can reset the computer if you know the proper procedure and speed the re-learning up a little.
And the ring and pinion ratio is the axle ratio - 3.55 turns of the pinion gear for one complete turn of the ring gear.

after making sure everything was tight.disconnected the battery, both negative and positive terminals and let it sit about 20 minutes. reconect battery and took test drive. i always say you vehicle runs the way you drive. i put my foot in it everytime i took off for about the first 100 miles. trying to reteach the pcm whos in charge. we both came to draw and now i have the acceleration from 0-50 mph that i was missing before. and the roaring sound from the tb has diminished. reteaching the pcm. whos says computers are smarter?
