I recently bought a 04 QC 4X4 short bed hemi. Absolutly love the truck except for the gas milage, but I really can't complain it is a 5.7L V8, shouldn't expect that good gas milage. Anyways, back to the subject. It doesn't happen all the time but about 1/3 of the time. When I go to put the truck in drive, reverse, whatever, the shifter on the column sticks and I can't move it. I've got to push it forward then pull it back and down. It's nothing serious, I hope, just more annoying than anything else. I spent 30K+ on it and I expect it to run perfectly for at least a year. Should I be concerned? Is this something that could be a big problem later? Any help would be appreciated. <IMG src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0">

 

Let your friendly dodge dealer take a look at it since it is still under the initial warranty. MS </P>

Ncapadona it's me the one that had the clunk noise like you. My shifter does the same thing. I threw it off saying may be I wasn't pulling the shifter all the way in towards me.However, since you brought it up I think something maybe wrong 1/3 of the time.Here we go again after I got just got the clunk noise fixed.If it does it again I'm taking it in.

 

Just for grins, if you don't already do this, try applying the parking brake prior to shifting into park and shutting the truck off. I have found that few people even use their parking brake and when they do apply it it's usually AFTER putting the gear shift into park. When you apply the parking brake while the truck is still in drive you transfer the holding weight of the vehicle to the parking brake (rear brakes) instead of the transmission. Like the others have said if this ain't it then off to the dealer ya go.

 

I noticed the same thing with mine. I came to the conclusion that it must be a brake interlock. Now I'm assuming your talking about coming out of park into another gear. You have to make sure you hit the brake before trying to move the selector. It's going to take me a while to get used to it. Let me know if this helps.

 

I thought something was wrong with my '03 Hemi too. It took a little getting used to but I agree with mopartodd. I would fiddle with the shifter and get all ticked of in the beginning but now it is smooth sailing all the time. I had a '00 Ram Sport before this one that didn't have the brake feature so that made the switch a little harder. I am 99 percent sure that you just have to get used to the brake interlock. I know I did. When you get in, the first thing you should do after settling into your power seats put your foot on the brake. Good Luck.
