Default Speaker upgrade

Hey all, I am looking into possibly upgrading my front speakers in my 06 quad cab w/ the infinity system. I don't want any thing crazy, just a crisper sound. I went to my local audio store and the salesman starts telling me that just doing a speaker upgrade will not make that big of difference, and that I need to put in a new head unit, all new speakers, and a amp. I walked out of there with a quote of $1300. He could be right, but I thought I would get a more honest answer here. Can I just do a speaker upgrade to improve the sound, or would I just be wasting my money, and if so what kind of speakers do you recommend. Thanks

ive always done my own stereos in my vehicles and tons for friends too.. a good head unit will make a significant difference in quality when upgrading speakers.. Aftermarket speakers will sound a bit better w/ a stock head unit but to get the full use of the speaker a better head unit is a not a bad way to go. As far as $1300 goes, well that would just be insane.. www.onlinecarstereo.com (good prices).. im a strong supporter of alpine head units and infinity speakers.. no need for an amp unless you wanna go real loud.. i have an 01 ram with infinity reference speakers all the way around and an alpine head unit, and i love it. i also have a 12'' JL sub w/ 500 watt amp but thats just for a little extra bump. pioneer also makes a good head unit.. you dont have to buy a top of the line head unit, but u also dont want to cheap out.. a mid priced alpine will most likely out last your vehicle (mines in its 3rd vehicle).. any other questions feel free to shoot me a message i will try my best to help

I second what Jay1751 said upgrade the head unit dont need to go insane like he said. I went with Sony explode not real expencive but made world of difference even with stock speakers. Then upgrade speakers if still not satisfied with sound.
Stay away from DIY mobile website those guys are insane($$$$) when it comes to mobile stereo sytems, actually alot of good info on that site just use restrain when building your system.
