First off, your friends that say FlowMaster is not very good, probably don't know that much anyway. FlowMaster is a good system, as is MagnaFlow, and as is Borla. Of the three systems, each has a unique sound. FlowMaster is probably the most noted. Borla the quietest and MagnaFlow in between. The Borla system is quite expensive, but it's stainless steel and will never rust out. MagnaFlows are available in aluminized or stainless and price varies accordingly. FlowMaster is predominantly aluminized, but some offerings are in stainless. Again, you pay more for stainless.

Keep in mind, when you get advice, either on this board or by your friends, it is most often what is known as anecdotal, in otherwords, it's not fact, but opinion. You have to take the opinions and figure out the facts for yourself.

His friends are probably comparing the Magnaflow to the Flowmaster that is chambered. You can't compare any free flowing muffler to a chambered muffler. I'm not sure which Flowmaster it is that is chambered(I think it is the 80 series). The flowmaster has really good sound but does not gain as much power as a Magnaflow or any of the free flowing(straight-through design) mufflers. This was the case on all of the dyno tests that I ran on my camaro with different types of mufflers. As far as power goes, the Random Technologies Catback gave the most power but I don't think they make them for our trucks.
