Series 40 Flowmaster on Hemi
I have a 2004 Ram Hemi QC 4x4 with the Offroad Package. I installed Original Series 40 Flowmaster, 3" all the way through. I did notice a difference in the power over stock. If you are running at or less than 1500 rpm, there does seem to be a power lag. It still has *****, but it doesn't jump through the power band. HOWEVER, if you are on the throttle - over 2000 rpm's while accelerating, the power kicks in. I'm not sure, but I think that can be attributed to the aftermarket exhaust system itself. I've noticed some people on here asking if Flowmaster robbed power from the Hemi. I don't think it "robs" it, it just changes when you feel it.
I installed a K&N Cold Air Intake and that definitely helped. Part of the problem may be using an aftermarket exhaust, and not opening up the front end with an intake. After I put the air intake on, I noticed the exhaust was louder, and the power lag subsided. I know a lot of people like Series 40 but hate the interior resonance. Yeah, it does get annoying, but NOTHING, not an F150, not a Titan, not a Silverado, sounds like a Hemi with this muffler. You can seriously hear it down the block.
Prior to my 04 Ram, I had an 04 F150, 5.4L V8, 4x4. A TOTAL LEMON. I put 6,000 miles on it and was towed to the dealer twice. Eventually the Lemon Law took care of it. But, I had Magnaflow on that truck. Of course you could tell it didn't have a stock muffler, but it sounds nothing like a Flowmaster.
I was curious, doany of you guys with Hemi Ram's have any opinions on the Banks Monster Exhaust? I saw a Titan with stickers all over it (my first thought was what a dork). I got on their website and they are selling for $700. What do you guys think of this exhaust system?
"Though I drive through the valley of imports,
I shall fear no Jap scrap,
For Hemi power art with me"

i have the 40 series also but with the afe cai. love the sound. looks cool too coming out the side instead of the rear. nothing against the traditionalist, i just like to be different. as far as the banks exhaust goes....i dunno anything about it.

I own the Delta Flow FlowMaster 40 Muffler. The Difference between your 40 and mine is the interior resonance noise level.
I still get the same FlowMaster Exhaust Sound but i dont get that crackle resonance noise/sound as much. ( crackle may not be the right word )
This is my 2nd DF Flowmaster, it's on a 05 Dakota no hemi ( if only ) the 1st was on a 95 Ranger. I had a 40 Series on a 98 F-150. I love Flowmaster Mufflers. I think they sound the Best of all if them.
I have a cheap video around somewhere that i made of the exhaust.. I had fun doing it and i should make a better one of it,...
But anyway,... Yeah I'm waiting for the aftermarket K&N Cold Air Intake for the 05 4.7l Dakota's to hit the street as they say this summer so i'm stuck with just the K&N air filter for now. a Superchip is Next after a Westin Bull Bar.
Catch ya later.
Jim.
There has been some discusion about the lowend power lose after installing the exhaust systems or mufflers. Flowmaster addressed the problem by introducing a muffler specifically for the Hemi. the problem has something to do with the backpressure or scavenging effect of the 40 series mufflers.
Flowmaster came out with a "Hush" series muffler for Hemis. It really has nothing to do with backpressure or the low end power - its more about size. Its a more compact muffler - and not too loud. This is just my personal thought, but I find it hard to believe a 40 series muffler can "rob" power from anything. If a Hemi is that picky - God forbid anybody add headers, or chips, or blowers. I think any engine, a Triton, a Vortec, or an Endurance will feel different when you change the exhaust (especially stock Rams, their exhausts are super-restrictive).
And personally, I LOVE the interior resonance of the Original 40 Series.

yeah i almost got the hush mufflers. they were bad a@@. but when i went to our local dealer down here & he let me listen to some others, i ended up getting 40 series flowmaster on mine. it was the cost factor for me. i got the parts & labor for $275.00. not bad for others said it would be $400.00 up. my husband wanted to put true dual, but most of the dealers around here say they can't do it.
