Checker Tonneau Installed
CanadianRAM,
By "jockey box" I am assuming you are referring to a tool box fitted in the truck bed (You must forgive me, I don't know the term). If this is what you mean, there I think there are soft tonneau covers to fit with the tool box. I don't know any brand names off hand right now.
Also, there is also a hard tonneau / tool box combo at http://www.gaylordslids.com/toolbox.asp
They have some pretty stylish covers, but I have never known anyone to have one.
Or make one yourself. The other day I saw what looked like a home made hard tonneau / tool box on the road. It looked like it was made from steel and painted black. It was clearly a work truck and someone that was good with metal made it.

The hardware is aluminum(sp). The only thing that i don't like about the kit is the the kit is that the support rods are telescoping with black plastic tensioners. The body of the tensioner show through the vinyl. Later I will be going to the home approvement center and get some rods and cut them to length and then have an arch put in them. As for sealing there is about an inch of flap that rests on the top of the bedrail. They include weather seal. I put it on the cover and not the bed, we just had a storm move through today with 20-25mph wind-driven rain and the thing didnt leak abit. The instructions are a little bit vauge(sp) though. I am quite pleased with it, it will do me for awhile until I can save up the near $2000 for a topper.
$151.75 shipped to omaha, NE. Took me about 3 hours to assemble, check fit and stretch the vinyl. This model is the clampon (tailgate only way to access). Uses 4 clamps took less than half an hour to get it on. I had a helper push down on the top of it, so that it would be as tight as possible on the bedrail.
As for solutions for jockey box? I assume you mean something like a toolbox. You can trim the long rails to desired length. You will have to drill a few holes for the corner attachents. The vinyl wraps around the edges and is secured from underneath. SO you can also easily trim the vinyl to fit the altered frame. As for the model with the struts I think that it would be harder since you would have to adjust the positioning and also Im not sure is the weight difference might make the struts a lil too strong when lifting. 04DAKOTA is ordering the lift model and he might be a better source of info with that. Oh yeah they build special order also. If you take the measurements of the inside dimensions, Im sure they can build it with no hassels of cutting.
I am playing with the ideas of either getting color matched replacement vinyl at the local fabric store or replace the bows with square aluminum tubing and using sheetmetal as the top. I would have to figure out a way to mount the sheetmetal to the aluminum. I'm not sure if tack welding or something like that would work with the different types of metals. I could then get it painted with a ram's head design or something. Of course being the clamp-on version it be a bear to remove if i ever had to with the added weight. With a clam-on version I could get stonger struts or teh new fangled actuator to power raise and lower it.
