Default How accurate are the gauges?

How accurate are the gauges on these trucks? Specifically, the DTE (distance to empty) gauge in the overhead console. I don't want to get to the 20-miles-remaining mark and run out of gas. Just wondering what you guys and gals have experienced. Thanks!

My experience has been the accuracy is only fair. I prefer to think of the dash cluster as indicators rather than gages. I refer to the "trip computer" as a trip display.

My 2002 1500 5.9 will go 60+ miles before it dies. When the needle is resting on the peg you got about 5 miles left!

...and you DON'T want to run out of gas and have the dirt in your fuel tank (yes, you have some) get sucked into your fuel injectors...[sm=smiley19.gif]

dustyloins, you sound like you say that from experience...

Speaking of which, I've only looked at a few places online, but I haven't been able to find a replacement fuel filter for my truck. These things DO have fuel filters... don't they?

Fuel filter, sending unit for gauge, and pump combined in gas tank.
