I am a new member. I own a 2000 Ram, 1500, 2wd 5.2L, bed cover. Has anyone heard of using a vortex valve to increase fuel economy? Does it work or is it hype? http://www.betterperformance.com/ I get avg of 14 mpg and would like to increase it.

Thanks for the replies. One comment to mopartodd - Looking at the forums people put K&N filters, cold air inductions, and different exhaust systems and get better mileage. Why dont the automakers do that?

I think 2 main reasons.
The expense of putting those mods. on the vehicle. The part your talking about costs about $5 to produce, maybe. If it worked, they would use it.
The other issue here is noise. Typically, exhaust and CAI will make a vehicle louder. Most people don't appreciate loud performance sounds coming from the vehicle. In fact, newer cars, at least the newer Dodges I've owned have quiet, free-flowing exhaust on them from the factory. Even my last 2 Neons had Mandel bent pipes all the way back, and were optimized for flow. The manufacturers do leave a little bit of HP on the table though with the exhaust and intakes. But it's nothing like it used to be when a set of headers and duals would get you a bunch of HP.
