Default tires

I am swapping my 20's out for 17's for the winter being I have already destroyed 2 sets of 20's. So my question is what tire sizes can I put on a 4x4 quad cab...I don't know about all the off-road sizes...only that the larger stock size for 17's is 265/70r17 which only has an overall diameter of 31.6 inchs whereas the 20's overall diameter is 32.99 inches. So do any of you know what size tires will fit a stock ride height ram? Is it best to stick with the 265/70r17 or go for a 33? If a 33, what is the size I am looking for? Thanks in advance for all your help!

Sorry, I can't help ya much with the tire sizes, I have the stock off road 17's on my truck, but I want a set of 20's for it.

How did you destroy 8 wheels so far? Maybe I don't want 20's!

285/70/17 or 33x12.50R17 either one of them is a 33" tire

Two sets of rims pitted serverely on the outer lip, was told it was from road salt and what not...I do not believe that statement. The second set was also discolored in a sense...there were marks on that plastic cover that would never come off no matter how much I cleaned.

I can tell you from experience that you can go as high as 305/70/17 with a stock 3rd generation (2002 and up) ram. I am running 305's on my truck, and there is no rubbing, even at full turn of the steering wheel, or when taking it off road.

305 would be width, not height. Would a tire that wide hinder driving in the snow and mud? Or would it actually help perform better? I would think it would take away from stability, no? Any help would be appriciated. Do you guys have any suggestions...I found a set of Mickey Thompson off-road for $109 a piece brand new. Any suggestions on well priced tires?
