I recently purchased a 1998 dodge 1500 4x4 with a 5.9 in it. I thought the tranny was shot but when I hooked a computer up to it, it couldn't find the PCM so I was told it might not be telling the pump to engage. It makes a whining and grinding sound when you put it gear. Any answers would be appreciated.

 

the pump is mechanical and will turn regardless...yes, its pwm pressure controlled but it still sounds like a hard part failure.


ultimately you will have to solve the communication problem so I am with you on fixing it first. the first step is checking all power and grds to the module.

 

Alright and right now it seems like it's stuck 4x4 even if you put it in 2wd any ideas on that one
