HEMI power
DodgeMech: Does the computer in the Hemi behave differently from a rolling start, say 5 MPH? About 2 weeks after getting my 04 QC Hemi with 20s, I pulled out of the driveway and put down two 15' stips before letting up on the pedal.
I've not tried this from a standing start but I think I'm going to try.
Just wondered about the rolling start.

DodgeMech, here is a fact: I spun my tires on my brand new stock Dodge 1500 5.7 Hemi on several occassions. No book, now DCX engineer, nobody can tell otherwise. It happened & I have a witness. I bought fatter tires with better rubber/tread, so that it wouldn't happen anymore. Now it doesn't, and that's a good thing to me.
BTW, there are several other techniques that other Dodge guys are using to get those tires spining:
1) 3/4 then full throttle - computer doesn't recognize it as limiting case.
2) Double pump the throttle - out smarts the computer again.
Mikebol, the rolling start may be another case that the computer isn't prepared for.

Ding Ding. In the red corner we have Big Dave, proponent of the spinning tires. In the blue corner is dodgemech armed with SAE certifications and a computer full of DC service manual software. Let's get ready to rummmbbbblllleeee!!!!

Are those the BF Goodrich sport truck tires? Whatever they are, they are nice. They look like warm weather tires though. Curious. How much of a weight difference is there between the 2 tire/ wheel combos. I'm probably the only one bored enough to actually try and weigh the stuff.
HemiAddict, ive done some reading on the stock 20's tires.. if i am correct, they are Goodyear Wrangler HP... and ive read nothing but bad about them. The thing i dont like most, is that everyones saying they have to be replaced at 30,000 miles.. And i can just imagine the price on some new 20" rubber..

If your interestined in reading what others had to say.. ive stopped dropping the hammer on the Hemi, just for this fact.

When my '03 was new, I could barely chirp a tire. THEN, I unplugged the tcm(transmission control module) from the fourth plug on the pcm and like to have lost the truck in a fishtail. I mean that HEMI come to life!! Apparently this can only be done on the '03 models. The engineers at Dodge realized people can unplug the tcm and changed the '04 so this can't be done. I don't see any increased performance, but the tranny does shift harder. I have actually chirped second from a dead stop run.
There are some post on this topic if you search for them.

They are B.F. Goodrich G-Force T/A KDW reinforced 285/60YR18. Now that's a mouthful. They are AA rated for traction, so no spinning. I plan to use them as my spring, summer, & fall tires. In the winter, I will put the OEM Goodyear Wrangler A/S 275/70R17's back on for snowy travel.
