Default Roll Bars

I saw a neat looking Lightning that had some rolls bars and I was wondering if they are really needed and if I should get them. He had one roll bar behind the seats that came up behind one seat just below the headrest, then went straight over and went down behind the other seat, it was kind of shaped like a squared-off upside down U. He had 4-point seat belts mounted to it. Then he had two bars com out of the top of the back window and they went down through his tonneau cover, just like the NASCAR Trucks. I couldn't see exactly where they mounted to. He had a Supercharger upgrade, CAI, Hoosier Slicks, and some other stuff too, I didn't really have time to get into a long conversation with him because he was next in line to race. He ran a 12.3, so he's not fooling around.

From what you say about his upgrades, then ya, id say they serve a purpose, to tie the frame together to make it stiffer for better wieght transfer, and id also take a guess at that kind et its required by NHRA rules to be allowed on the track.

Sorry, I forgot to include the whole point of my post (I was tired [sm=smiley29.gif] ). The plan for my truck is the KB Supercharger, CAI, Headers, and Super Chip. The Supercharger gave their test HEMI 520 horses by itself so I was wondering if I should look into buying a roll bar and better seat belts.

I didn't really think about seatbelts until the local Police and Paramedics gave us a presentation at school about drunk/wreckless driving and they had pictures of some car that was going fast enough that when he hit whatever he hit he broke through his seatbelt and went on through the windshield. It all really depends on what you plan on doign with your truck after you get that kinda HP. Drag racing? Off-Road 4x4'n? or jsut a daily driver? As a daily driver.. id say no, it would be more of a pain having to do up those 4pnt harness just to go get a pop at 711. But for racing then ya, maybe you would, i coulndt find the exact specs for what class/speeds need a roll cage, and for 4x4, then heck ya, for that just in case time, the truck goes over, or even to hold you in your seat, id suggest a 5pnt harness for offroading, but thats me, just make sure you install it properly. the lap belt, and the one between the legs.. you cant really go wrong, its the two sholder belts, they HAVE to be even, or just below your shoulders while sitting in your seats. HAVE to! If you mount them to the floor, they will just destroy your back, theyre meant to hold you in incase of a rollover, and to hold you back from hitting the dash. Alot of people install those two belts wrong.

Just some more info to chew on

Well it'll be a combination of daily driver and drag racer. It is my truck that I drive to school but I wanted to start going to the tracks and win some trophies.
