Default Tire wear Question.

Two weeks ago i had my dealer fix a leaking power steering unit (they replaced the whole steering rack;said the seals were not seated correctly at the factory and they couldn't replace just the seals!?) not a bad leak, but being under warranty, what the he77! If it wasn't warrantied, i would probably have just filled the fluid once every two months or so.... anyway, i noticed the other day that the driver side tire is scalloping on the inside. All the other tires seem fine. Called the dealer to bring it in, and the service guy suggested that the mech. hadn't checked the toe out after replacing the steering rack, could that be the problem? I ride snowmobiles and know how important toe-out is to proper handling, so it kind of makes sense.
I'm ready to make them do an alignment, if i have to yell and scream and jump up and down!!!
Any tire wear info would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I agree with you, the truck would have to be alligned after they install a new stearing rack, so if that was not done properly, then I would make the dealer fix the problem.
If it did not do it before, then why would it do it now.

It comes from a combination of tierod ends and ball joints, things are wobbling, causin the tire to wobble on iits inside edge. Take back, definty warranty

Nice try but not really. There better not be anything wobbling in the front-end. They probably short-cut the job by just making sure the steering wheel was straight which left the total toe out of spec. It bothered me that only 1 tire was wearing because that would indicate toe had nothing to do with it-if the toe is out it has to wear both tires the same, thats how the whole toe part of alignment works. Only one tire wearing is either camber or driver. If you live in a court or always make lock type turn to park in the same direction it will wear the inside turning tires outside shoulder-follow me. Or if drive hard you will tend to wear the outside shoulder of the right front tire from hard left cornering.

Dodgemech,

Thank you, good Info. The left front tire on my truck (03, QC 4x4) is wearing on the inside but the right side is fine. The truck is under warranty, has about 24,000 miles, and still sports the factory tires. I live in a rural area and the last mile to my house is gravel, sometimes rough after a storm. I wrote-off the wear as an alignment problem and added an appointment for repair to the to-do list. I'll probably make that call now since I have a few moments. I appreciate that you're willing to share your knowledge.

Jim

Thanks to all for your input!! I guess i'll take it in and see what the mechanic recommends (i just talked to the service dept. windbag LOL)I'll pay for a rotation, and i'll insist on a free alignment and just see where i get.I'm certain that the problem has surfaced recently, as i keep a close eye one most everything related to my beloved Dodge. I'm sure you all can relate.
P.S. I'll keep you posted.
