Default Details of a V10

Hi to everybody, my best buddy wants to buy a cheap Ram build in between `94-`97 with a 8000cc V10.He asked me some specials, but I couldnīt answer him, because this type is pretty rare here in Germany andalmost unknown. So please help me.Average milage, how much hp and torque/rpm,better 2wd or 4wd (we wants to lower the truck and get on speed by max. traction) Manual or Automatic and how much "healty" is this engine after running about 125k and 200k.Is it advisible to add some upgrades to it (s/c,ported heads, exhausts)or will this be the last nail in the coffin? What different repairs and maintenance could we expect? This truck wonīt be a dailydriver just a dependable fun-truck for the weekend, so there arenīt many miles to drive for this old grandpa in future, but the miles it runs in future should be fast and durable. Remember: WE have the autobahn and we want to kick some Porscheīs butt. Let me get your experience, please. Default Details of a V10

Hi dodge. If i'm reading this right you want to make a '94 thru '97 8.0 litre v10 ram fly at 150mph plus down the autobahn. Well that can be done. I would go for the two wheel drive and a five speed and the '95 model is the best v10 made. Second be aware that only the three quarter and one ton models came with the v10 engine it was not an option on the lighter ram 150 models like you currently own. So weight will play a big part unless you want to dive into the problem of buying a ram 150 and v10 engine and installing it. This will create a lot of headaches because you will have to replace and fabricate everything to hold the motor and transmission. I would talk to just suspension as they offer lowering kits for that year ram from one inch too four inches. so does Bell tech. Second i would install 3.23 or lower rear gearing as the v10 makes plenty of torque to move the truck at both low and high speeds and this lower gear will improve the top end of the truck, Mopar performance makes a computer that will work wonders to start with, and paxton makes a bolt on supercharger, i would also get a comp or crane cam to make it even sweeter as you probaly guessed the choices are endless. I have a buddy who owns a three quarter ton '94 dodge ram 250 with the v10 and five speed that uses it in his construction business he currently has over 280,00 miles on the truck and it still drives, runs greatwith only a replaced timing chain and alternator along with other stuff, spark plugs, wires, etc. This engine is built off the 5.2/5.9 litre engine class that has been around since the early 1960's it is a bullet proof engine as the 5.2/5.9 engines carried dodge trucks for well over two decades they added two cylinders and out came a 8.0 litre v10! I have added some web sights below that you want to check out i have used them before with A++ results.

Thankīs Andybuzz, thatīs what I called details. You are a big help for us and you made even our homework. Maybe you can answer some further questions, too. What about the "fueleconomy"of this gas guzzler? It doesnīt really counts nevertheless its interesting for us. Whatīs about the hp and torque at stock? And last but not least it would be great knowing some types of rubber rated to our topspeed (150-160mph). Bye, Mikel (Dodge Germany)

I bet I should change the brakes (front and rear) Any suggestions?

Well dodge germany glad i could help you. A buddy of mine who is in the u.s. army was shipped off to germany last week and he did not want to leave his '93 stealth r/t behind so he drove it to new jersey were they loaded it on a container to be shipped over seas think he said it ran 1200 u.s dollars(and uncle sam payed the bill..i.e you and me i mean!). Another thing to consider and i don't have a clue here, is what is germany's tariff charges? They are high in the states. It maybe cheaper for you to find what your looking for in europe. The v10 cast iron truck engine was not built for someone who asked "what kind of milage does it get?" but "how many poundsyou say it will haul?" Milage depends on what kind of driving you do. Around town probaly 8-10 miles per gallon. Sorry don't know what that converts into on the mertic end. Out on the autobahn at 160mph probaly 6mpg or less. Bfgoodrich has some nice z speed rated(over 150mph)but being in europe i would consider some brands there like some of the new nitto wr rated tires for speeds in excess of 200 mph. I would with out a dought change the stock brakes one hard stop at the speeds your wanting would cook them, our speed limit is between 55miles per hour and 70mph on the interstate with most driving 80mph or slightly more(Unless your street raceing then its 100 plus,,haha) I can just see a ram 250/2500 going from 120+mph to zero! You could lite a cigarette off of the rotors! Yes with out a dought if you haul *** make sure you can haul it down before hitting what your trying to miss! In your case i would recommend no smaller than 15 inch or bigger rotors and switch to rotors on the rear, better yet pull therear endfrom a half ton and install it on your truck, all 3/4(250/2500) and one tons(350/3500) are 8 bolt wheels which leaves little in the mag wheel department, also swap out the front with 5 lug, do notuse adapters from 8 to 5 lugs those things will get you hurt! The performance options are endless from there. You can have the latest and greatest 24 or 26 inch wheels and tires!
