Default Dodge diesel upgrades

I am about to purchase a new 3/4 ton 4X4 diesel H.O. and was wondering from others experiences which were the best performance products to buy. Starting with the computer reprogrammer to exhaust. And also what gains you have experienced with these upgrades. Thanks for the info.

http://www.bullydog.com/

I myself, if i had the cash, would go for the Gale Banks Six Gun Bundle, and Bully Dog's Propane Injection. But thats me.. and i dont have one.

Yes, I am aware of the banks six gun, but I was not looking to spend quite that much money. I have heard that on a diesel the reprogrammer and a muffler and bigger exhaust will add quite a bit. I guess I should have asked about those two items. thanks

I dont know what yr you are planning on purchasing but I owne a 99 running straight pipe with CAI and a bully dog chip fixen to put in larger injectors and right now pulling a 9klb travel trailer I can still smoke most new chevys fords and dodges but I would not recomend the straight pipe unless you want a lot of noise you can get the banks muffler that works just as good and is still quiet, but I would go with the CAI and chip and larger injectors and you can get well in the 400 hp range or more but if you go much more that that and you are getting a standard I would replace you clutch with a heavy duty after market one

Be careful of just getting a reprogrammer. There are a lot of systems out there that will reflash your computer and just dump a crapload of fuel into your engine, and it comes to a point where its bad. There is a little inline computer system from predator, that you can plug in and unplug quickly and easily that intercepts, and changes computer code for ya, its not as much power, but its cheap, its easy, and if you ever have problems you just unplug the little module and your good to go.

As for the rest, CAI and Exhaust and big, exhaust especially, get yourself a 4" (not 5... still need SOME backpressure) all the way back.

After that, you can get really crazy too, theres a new turbo out for them, a new tq convertor is definately a consideration when you start adding power. For about 800 bucks you can get new 85 (I think) fuel injectors that will give you over 100 some hp. Check out the sites that were already linked they have tonnes of stuff. Diesels are really easy to get tonnes of power out of. I mean, really, its just like the 6 gun works. With a diesel you can just turn a **** and double your power... put propane on, it cleans emmissions, makes you run cooler, increases fuel mileage, and engine longevity.. not many performance add ons for a gas engine that do that!

Good luck and enjoy your new dizzle powerd ram. Believe me, the 600 (!) lb ft of tq will be a kick in the *** at first anyways. I know, I had one for two weeks before I decided to step down to the rumble bee (For 5000 dollars more!)

I haven't heard anything good about the Super Chips reprogrammer. I have the Edge EZ, took about 10 mins to install and nothing but smiles. Best $350 I have ever spent on a vehicle - good for 65 rw hp and 185 ft lbs. I also installed 275 injectors which took about 8 hours from start to finish. I cleaned the engine compartment before removing the valve cover to make sure nothing would fall into the valve train. I also painted the valve cover red and satin polished the lettering. I spent $225 on injectors and like I said I am very pleased with the results. I put the EZ in around 20k miles and started slipping 6th gear. When I added 275 injectors I could easily slip 5th and 6th when going WOT. I just replaced the clutch about a month ago at 78k miles.

Hope this helps,

Bob

Thanks Bob. I have heard great things about the edge chip. More power and gas mileage. That sounds like a must purchase.
