pull your tps connector & check to make sure the connector is not corroded, clean it well & try it again. Has the tranny ever been pulled? could be you have a bad connection somewhere around the tranny...

has anyone heard of a tranny speed sensor causing this problem?
Kevro7, i'd do a search on the tranny speed sensor & see what the symptoms were before they (poster) replaced it, not sure if this could be your problem but it's worth looking into

was wondering if i could manually control the lockup of the TC? I know that the diesels can do this with just some wire and a toggle switch. wasn't sure if this could be done on a gas vehicle. all the components required to do it are there.

there is a way to lockup the converter but I've never done it. I'm tempted though, in the mountains it would be nice to just unlock the TC instead of downshifting. Seems that the TC get's locked pretty quickly.

One other thing to consider is the IAC motor may need to be cleaned. Clean it & all the contacts for the wiring. What about the A/C kicking on & off? the idle is usually raised when it's on, but I wouldn't think it would be affected when cruising...

as for the A/C, its been a very rare very cool summer here in Kansas, so i haven't even turned the A/C on all summer. i'll clean the IAC and all of it components and if that doesn't work i'm gonna stick my neck out and try the manual lockup switch. i'll let you know how it goes if it gets that far. thanks steve00ram360!

could a leak in the upper plenum gasket cause a vacuum leak that would in turn make the lockup portion of the TC work erracticly?

Well while I had my truck in for the fuel pump, I told the tech about my problem. He checked the codes and said the my TPS was "flacuating" (spelling). Dealer swaped TPS and havent had a problem since this weekend. FYI I drove over 200 miles home back from wisconsin dells. I'll keep you guys updated.
